How to find education-cost support in Mie
Information checked: 19 October 2026
Start with the cost and school level
- Elementary or junior high school: ask the school office or your municipality’s board of education about “school attendance assistance” (就学援助). Ask which costs may be covered and how to apply.
- High-school tuition: ask the school office and check Mie Prefecture’s tuition-support information.
- High-school costs other than tuition: ask the school and prefecture about scholarship benefits and other support.
- Further education: ask the school about scholarships and whether each option is a grant or a loan.
These programs are different. A grant (給付) may not need repayment, subject to its rules. A loan (貸与・貸付) normally must be repaid. Ask about repayment, covered expenses and whether programs can be combined.
You can begin without knowing the program name. Contact the school office, homeroom teacher, or the education department/board of education in the municipality where you live. Ask who handles your school level and situation.
Steps to prepare an application
- Open the official page for your municipality and school level. If it is unclear, contact the school office or education department.
- Ask for the current school-year application guide and form. Confirm where and how to submit them.
- Ask what costs are covered, how eligibility is assessed, what documents are needed, and the deadline. Ask whether applications during the school year or after a change in household circumstances can be discussed.
- Before filling in personal information, confirm the official recipient and a safe way to submit it. Do not send sensitive details through an unverified contact route.
- Submit using the instructions you received. Keep a copy and note the date and contact person. Ask how and when you will hear the result.
Finding a program or submitting an application does not mean it has been approved. The municipality or school decides under its current rules. Ask whether a separate application is needed for each program.
When filling in a form
- Use the current form for the correct school year; do not assume last year’s form is still accepted.
- Check the child’s name, school, address and other entries against official documents.
- Ask the office how to complete any item you do not understand. Do not guess or leave required fields blank without asking.
- Confirm whether supporting documents must be originals or copies, and how to submit them.
- Check that signatures and any required consent sections are complete. Keep a copy of the submitted form and documents.
Do not put private household or identity information into this website. Share it only with the confirmed official office using its instructed method.

Check current information for your municipality and school year.
